Sheet metaland fabrication
When a main contractor prices the steel package, the engineer checks your EN 1090 execution class and bed sizes before your home page. We read your capability page and your quotes the way that engineer does, and say what to fix first.
Start with the free Findability Check, which reports within the hour whether the AI tools name you for structural, process and architectural fabrication, or book the Sales Engine Audit, from £750.
What the contractor's engineer checks before the tender list
Before a fabricator gets on a tender list, the buyer checks your welder coding, your EN 1090 execution class and UKCA or CE marking, then bed sizes and lifting capacity, the finishing you do in house, and evidence that you hit site dates. The site date matters as much as the price, so the record of the deliveries you have made on time belongs on the capability page and in the quote.
The question a contractor types into Perplexity
“EN 1090 fabricators near Peterborough with a 6 m bed and powder coating”
A buyer types that into ChatGPT or Perplexity and gets a shortlist; Gemini and Claude return one of their own. Each names the firms whose sites state those things, so the execution class, the bed size, the lifting capacity and the finishing you offer need to be on your capability page as text, with the towns you deliver to.
The free Findability Check builds six questions of that kind from your own site, puts them to the assistants, and reports within the hour whether you are named and who is.
Which public signals mean a contractor is about to buy
For a fabricator the signals are planning consents for industrial buildings and extensions, including new distribution and food sites, contractor appointments, and tenders for process plant. A consent granted this week becomes a fabricator's enquiry months later, once the contractor is appointed and the steel package is priced, so the useful time to write is before that.
The watch for a fabricator is the planning portals for the counties you deliver to and the award notices on the tender portals. We read them each morning, pick out the consents and awards that fit your bed sizes and the structures you build, and write to the engineer before the steel package is let. Every email waits for your approval, and if you would rather write them yourself the Signal Feed sends you the consents with a contact suggestion on each.
The planning watch comes first
The watch comes first, because the email has to reach the engineer while the steel package is still being specified. We agree with you which project sizes and structure types are worth an email, set the watch, and draft the first emails to the project engineer or the client's engineer for you to approve. The capability page comes second, so that a buyer who searches after reading the email finds the same facts on the page, starting with a table of the bays.
| Bay | Bed | Thickness | Lifting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fibre laser | 3,000 x 1,500 mm | Mild steel to 20 mm, stainless to 12 mm, aluminium to 10 mm | 2 t crane |
| Press brake | 4 m, 220 t | Mild steel to 12 mm | 2 t crane |
| Tube laser | 150 mm diameter, 6 m length | Wall to 10 mm | 1 t jib |
| Fabrication bay | 40 x 15 m, 6 x 5 m door | Plate to 50 mm | Two 10 t overhead cranes |
Example rows; the page carries your own bays.
What the audit covers for a fabricator
The Sales Engine Audit records whether the assistants name you for the structures and finishing you offer, reads a sample of your quotes, and comes back with the fixes in priority order, each with a rough cost and effort. The full description and the three tiers are on the Find out where you stand page.
